Suankwangtung Clinic offers extremely affordable cosmetic and health treatments.Medical facilities abound on Samui, and many patients even vacation here so that they can benefit from various treatments. Newcomer Suankwangtung Clinic is a professionally run traditional Chinese medicine clinic focussing on acupuncture, amongst other treatments. It’s a branch of the clinic of the same name in Bangkok, which has been running for 33 years.

There are plenty of reasons to take a look at Chinese medicine, and they’re all good. The idea behind it is that by strengthening the body’s energy, known as ‘chi’ or ‘qi’, diseases and troubles of the individual can be healed. In western medicine, it’s the disease and the symptoms that are treated; in the Chinese system it’s the individual themselves. If the body is out of balance, then it needs to be equilibrated, disease being a symptom of some kind of imbalance. At Suankwangtung Clinic, all sorts of services are offered. Basically they’re subdivided into two categories: cosmetic and beauty treatments, then medical treatments.

For cosmetic and beauty matters, the clinic can improve your appearance both generally and in specific areas. If, for example, your face appears tired, the eyes listless and you have wrinkles, this can be improved. So too can conditions where your hair is falling out or if you’re going bald. With the treatments being entirely natural, there’s no danger involved as with surgery or similar procedures. Acupuncture, for many people, Suankwangtung Clinic offers extremely affordable cosmetic and health the new Botox! Weight loss is also covered – not only will you look better and feel better, but just being the right weight will be healthier for you.

For medical concerns, if you feel lacking in energy, unwell or if you are suffering from illness of virtually any kind, traditional Chinese medicine can help you by treating your whole body, as well as any diseases, if present. First you’ll be given an initial diagnosis, performed by the doctor. You certainly don’t need to know the name of whatever you’re suffering from. Chinese medicine is able to treat conditions that cover most ailments, even general poorly feelings brought on by old age, unhealthy lifestyles and so on. Many people simply go along to maintain their health; this type of treatment is also preventative; if you treat the patient holistically and as an individual it’s less likely that problems will emerge.

Doctors at the clinic, by the way, all undergo rigorous training. This starts with medical studies in Thailand, typically for three years, followed by another three years in a Chinese medical facility, such as the Zhongyi Yao University, in Shenzhen.

Depending on the diagnosis, you’ll receive treatments that may include acupuncture, moxibustion (a form of heat therapy), chiropractic elements and Chinese massage. Facial treatments can include silicon cupping, ultrasound and Gua Sha (a natural therapy that involves gently exfoliating the skin to improve circulation). Suankwangtung Clinic offers extremely affordable cosmetic and health treatments. If you’re new to acupuncture, you may think it’s going to be painful. This isn’t the case. Needles are thin, don’t penetrate deeply and are expertly placed – they don’t hurt. They are also guaranteed sterile.

No clinic of Chinese medicine is complete without mentioning the herbs and medicines. To say they’re tried and trusted is a bit of an understatement. With the first pharmaceutical information compiled in 659 AD, almost 900 years before western medicine published theirs, these medicines are efficacious and many are still used today.

The Suankwangtung Clinic naturally has its own pharmacy – good news for people seeking medicines, as they no longer need to resort to trips to Bangkok or the mainland to find them. Chinese herbs are processed from their raw state by baking, roasting, washing, soaking, steaming and stewing – they’re all natural, but need to be purified and correctly stored. So far so good – but just as with their western counterparts, it’s not a good idea to try and diagnose yourself and then prescribe your own medicine. It’s hit-and-miss, and could in fact be dangerous. Even ginseng bears some toxic side effects.

You can make an appointment either by calling directly or by using the smart phone app ZeekDoc. Suankwangtung Clinic is located at Royal Muang Samui Villas, on the beach road in Choeng Mon. The clinic consists of three small, well-appointed and comfortable buildings which guarantee privacy, and are ideal for relaxation.

Your health and good looks are definitely worth investing in, but you won’t need to worry about prices at Suankwangtung Clinic. They’re amazingly reasonable. For acupuncture, prices can be as low as 300 baht per session. Take advantage of the raft of promotions that the clinic is offering, too.
